12:01a crown aar
tired. brain dump. this is the shakedown cruise for the new 4runner / trailer rig. thursday - work a regular day, then pack the trailer, leaving room for Cody's stuff. This leaves the trailer very front-heavy, and needing to be put back in the garage. Ula and N. stand on the back rim of the trailer while I deadlift the tongue and walk it back. This was a mighty feat. friday, 4 am - awakened by charley horse. friday - up early to reposition cars / trailer. work through the morning while Ula goes to run final errands (wash dog, pick up munchies and Tuaca and soda). Cody arrives and we load her stuff into the trailer. Leave pdx around 1? hard to tell. The trailer has been correctly loaded, it turns out, but I'm not familiar with how it's supposed to feel, so it takes a few miles to decide all is well. The v6 is powerful enough if you drive it with intention and forethought. People pulled in front of me a couple of times in traffic when I had plenty of way on. With the trailer, this rig weighs twice as much as it did yesterday, and has the same brakes. I remember a bit of obscene invective that I'd told Sigivald about a couple days before, but don't repeat it for the sake of my passengers. We arrive on site (Selma, OR) just in time to unload and set up in the light. saturday, 4 am - awakened by charley horse in other leg. saturday - hot, hot, hot. Crown is not supposed to be like this. There is much suffering. In the light of day we can see how bitchen our camp is. Owain wins. Night falls. The temperature is now perfect, and party can begin, but N. has discovered a previously unknown shrimp allergy. She's in no danger, but very itchy. Antihistamines are procured. sunday - we start packing. Cody cuts her hand badly while doing dishes, and the team springs into action. Lara and I take Cody to the E-room in Grants Pass, which soaks four hours -- fortunately Ula, N, Rob, &c can complete loadup in parallel. Off site at 3:30. Grab a bite at Applebee's - discover Rob has a flat, and help him fix it. On the road again. Ula gets a call from Kim, which always means something requires attention. We almost run out of gas before getting to Salem. Home 11:15 PM.

8:22p Culmination of Ivo's introspection...
Yeaux. I've put myself through a drawn out dark night of the soul, and come out the other side better for it. This is a wrung out but positive flavor of Ivo.
Over the last few days, several things that I've been struggling with for my entire adult life came to a head. This isn't the same Ivo that you've come to know, though many things are similar enough. I have better focus and a more balanced sense of priorities. I'm no longer much interested in fun distractions or light entertainment. Yes, less so that I have been previously.
I am going into an energized period of business focus, likely for at least a year, though only time will tell. I do plan to throw a few more parties than I threw last year, but spend a lot less time socially with friends on a weekly basis. waves wistfully There will be remodeling work parties though... ^_^
I anticipate making my various projects somewhat more visible to people, and hope to get feedback and input from those who are interested. I'll post here and elsewhere over the coming weeks as I have things to share.
You have all been very patient with me, with special apologies to Q -- I can only hope that as I show the results of these recent changes you might come to think that it's been worth the pain.
Love and bright blessings~

11:20p Fell Happenings, Fell Deeds
I don't often wax philosophical, but the latest onslaught of news from the world finally struck a nerve with me. I do not approve of the spread of news of evil acts. On a personal level, each new way you know that evil may be perpetrated stains your soul. Too, the way I understand how minds work, each action you take is the result of majority rule from the many different impulses that your mind can generate. It's why you have impulses that you can ignore. If you know about evil, it is presented by a (hopefully) minority section of your mind. But the idea is still there. Knowledge of evil is also the possibility of doing that evil. And really, some people out there relish the infamy that their actions do.
That does not hold for evil happenings. Disasters, catastrophes, and such, need to be brought to light so that people can be given the opportunity to do good acts. Virtue is not an act of celibacy, nor is it being pious to be seen to be pious. Virtue is doing good for its own sake.

2:05p ninety-six degrees in the sha-a-ade…
Yesterday the thermometer on my front porch, in the shade, was between ninety-five and ninety-six. This unseasonably warm weather has had me running about the yard, using salvaged greywater to keep my young trees from wilting permanently. I have a five gallon bucket with a tiny hole drilled low on one side, which acts as a portable drip irrigator, and I move it from the persimmon to the apples and around again. Before Bill left to go back to Olympia, he helped me get more air into my bicycle tires; apparently the green "slime", which came in the tires with the bike, makes it harder to pump air in. And he showed me how to remove the rear fender, which was dragging on the back tire. So now the bike is much easier to ride; I celebrated by taking the recycling away and making a circle round to New Seasons for groceries. As I continue to clear and organize the workroom, the central space is definitely big enough for a four person worktable. Eventually, all the myriad boxes of art and craft supplies and tools will be sorted… Have finally come up with a design I like for the future copper bathroom sink, a modified oriental cloud shape. Now to send the sketch off to see if this is feasible and find out how much copper is needed, for a sink approximately 10 x 14 inches. Today I rode the number 75 bus all the way to the end of the line, to go and check out the farmers market in Milwaukee. Much larger than the local one near my neighborhood, and I was able to get a lovely bunch of young organic baby beets. The local farmers market has no organic veggies at all. But I think that New Seasons still has better prices. And I've never seen elk meat for sale at a farmers market anywhere. Next time I'm bringing my little picnic lunchbox with some ice...

3:20p If you didn't know... our dog is a freak!
Yesterday was Hank's birthday, and in honor of the occasion he took the day off work and spent it playing video games and eating chocolate mousse. Now I have made chocolate mouse for him before, and consider it to be a pain, so I purchased some from Whole Foods. Because of our "lovely" weather that ended up also being a pain, mostly due to high traffic volume on 99 as people traveled to the coast, and the insanity and road rage that heat and heavy traffic inspire in the general population. Being smart (at times) I keep a small cooler in the trunk of my car, so I was able to successfully transport the sacred mousse home on a bed of ice. When I reached our home, I moved the mousse, cooler and all, into the kitchen, and then nestled the tulip-shaped cups of chocolate mousse elaborately topped with three types of berries and white chocolate straws, into the refrigerator. As I am completing this operation I begin to hear a loud crunching noise. I move on to unpacking the other groceries and the crunching continues. And continues. For like 5 minutes. Of course it was the dog eating the ice. She often will eat an ice cube if we drop one on the floor, but this time she was chowing down on the cooler full of ice like it was cat food. What a freak... Anyway, today I gave up and filled half her water bowl with ice since she kept looking around for the cooler and I am a sucker.

5:31p Doctor Who curtains
I am in the US. I have searched ebay and the net, but I can't find any in the US. I tried some stores in the UK and they want 30 pounds to ship. Ebay.uk is a little better, but they want more for the curtains. I am planning to use them to craft, not to hang. Maybe back a quilt? I did find them cheap at a shop, but they won't ship to the US at all. Any advice or US sources?

11:09a culinary herb garden & etc
Hopefully , this will become the kitchen herb garden, just a few steps beyond the front walkway. For the last few days I've been gradually turning the broken brick bits into the edge of a new planter in my front yard. Though there are not enough bricks to complete the circle, I've had a few folk say that they have some extra old bricks in their yards, so I can finish the design. I had initially thought about one of the "permaculture herb spirals", but already had the star magnolia in the center, and don't want to transplant it. For now the circular planter will get lots of sun, and in future years, when the tree gets big enough to shade the planter, I can create another herb garden, and use this planter for happy shade things, like lettuces...
For the last several months I've been trying to get brave enough to talk to my neighbor about the overhanging young-but-sickly birch tree in his yard. It was not giving him any shade, but if it grew up, it would totally shade my garden. Yesterday when i went out to feed the hens, the birch tree was gone. I am going next door, the next time neighbor and girlfriend are home, with a gift of eggses and some homemade jam in thanks.... Now hopefully he won't plant something like a dawn redwood instead!

9:20a creepy morbid post for a sunny day
So l get an email from a social & business networking site, telling me I should confirm that viking food guy knows me. No prob; that's not the creepy morbid part.
I get on the site, and confirm Pat knows me, and then I get offered to add friends based on my address book. One of them was my Medford reseller -- our first reseller, in fact. When my company had made no sales at all, this guy signed up to sell and support our stuff in Southern Oregon.
I totally would have added him to my Plaxo friends list -- but he died two weeks ago in a motorcycle accident. His account is going to sit there for months, maybe years, before it gets deleted for inactivity. It's a zombie social networking account.

Any thouht of rwn ended yesterday. Morrigan, our female dobie had her spleen removed. It was not cancerous, but was 4 times the normal size and had started to tear. The dog showed no signs that anything was wrong and we only discovered it when we took her to the vet for her normal annual shots. She is home and VERY stoned, but doing ok. Since she requires a lot of care right now, we could not go anyway. Plus the vet bill for this was hefty to say the least.
Hope you all have a blast.

10:30p A little help please?
Hi, everyone! I've been a long-time lurker and admirer of the crafts in this community, and I've figured if anyone could help me out with my predicament, it would be some one here.
I've been working on a graduation present for one of my friends who is, like me, a major Ten/Rose fan. I've made dolls for her, but I'm having trouble with clothes (shirt/tie/suit for the Doctor and a shirt and pants for Rose). I've been looking forever for patterns online for suits and stuff but to no avail and I was hoping that some one here either has patterns they would be willing to share or could possible give me some suggestions on how to begin. I've included pictures of the dolls under the cut. Each doll is around 6 inches tall (4 inches from neck to foot) with 2 inch long arms, but I have a knack for manipulating patterns, so the exact measurements don't really matter.
( Allons-y, Dolls! )
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
